How Writers And Authors Can Bring A Character To Life

Did I ever share with you the time
I unwittingly brought a character to life;
it was a few years ago, while I was still
writing my first novel Broken Oath.

I have told this story many times and the listeners and readers love it.  So if it's good to hear more than once, then it must be reiterated again and again; who knows whom it may inspire:-

As most authors know, even when you are writing one book, your mind is already creating a second one.

Well, I woke up one morning feeling excited after having a flash vision of a storyline and in particular, a character in my second book.  I immediately took pen to paper and began to write what I had seen in my dream; a tall man, elderly and scruffy-looking and he had a beard.  He wore a long, either dark grey or black coat and he carried an old black doctor's bag (like the one you see in horror movies).  He smelt old and dusty; as though he had been walking the Earth for a long, long time, throughout many lifetimes.  He walked with a slight hunch and he seemed to be in a hurry; like he had to be somewhere or see someone.  Wherever it was he was going, he was focused on getting to that destination.

I knew he was a time traveller and he was able to go wherever he wanted; to any dimensions or worlds.  He was never held up for too long at customs or by boarder agency custodians because he had a smell about him that wasn't exactly pleasing and people tend to let him through quickly.  And if you asked him where he was going, he would always answer.  "I am here to see someone."  You would never get another word out of him.  And his name was Alba.

I wrote that piece with power and passion in my journal, and forgot about it.  After all I was still writing my first book.  A few days later, I was out taking my lunch break at work and I saw a character on the other side of the road.  I was surprised, it was a man and he looked just like then person I had written about for my next book.  I had never seen this man before.  He was obviously new in the area. I had to stop and stare at him; there he was, with his long dark coat, his doctor's bag and he looked like he was in a hurry; focused as though he had to get somewhere.  He looked 'out of time.'  Like he didn't belong on this plane.  There was something about him, I couldn't believe what I was seeing so I dismissed it and got on with my life.

Suddenly, I kept on seeing this character; it was always around the same place; he walked like he was on a mission.  Then one day, during my lunch break again; I had just come out of Sainsburys when I happened to look up and who do you think was on the other side of the shopping mall?  This stranger;  I was shocked, I stared at him, then he turned and glanced in my direction and we made eye contact.  I was scared, I put my head down and pretended that I did not see him but I could sense that he was coming over to me and when I looked up again, there he was, standing before me.

I was apprehensive as I looked at him, he was exactly like the description of the fiction character of my next book; a tall old man, scruffy and with a beard.  He wore a long dark coat and he carried an old black doctors bag.  And.... He smelt very musty.  We were locked in a gaze when suddenly he spoke.

     "Hello!  How are you?"
"I am fine thank you."  I replied.  Then he spoke again.
     "What's your name?"
     "Dora."
     "What's my name?"
     "I'm sorry?"  I said.
     "What's my name?"  He repeated,
"Alba."  I responded, as that is the name I gave his character in my book.
"No!"  He retorted.   And again he said.
"What's my name?"
"I don't know."  I returned.  He looked at me intensely for a few seconds and said.
"My name is..."  He paused for a moment.
"I am here to see someone."  And with that last remark, he walked off then turned back slowly to look at me, gave a wry smile and carried on walking into the crowd.  I was dumbstruck, I just stood there.   I could not believe it.  What just happened I thought?  I was so shocked. I could not concentrate for the rest of the day as I went over the incident again and again in my head.

As soon as I got home I rushed to look at my notes.  Exactly what I wrote, that was what happened, and he spoke the exact words.  I was so spooked; did I create him?  Was he someone who knew I was writing about him?  Was he a Time Traveller?  Was he really not of our world?

I was so alarmed, I wrote no more about him and after a while, I never saw him again.  It was too much for me to handle; I was not ready for the supernatural and I am not sure if I will integrate his character into my next book, or should I?

I had the flash vision of this character on 19th June 2009 and I met him eleven days later.  I still have my notes to this day.  And I will never forget the encounter.

I marvel at the power of thought; the power of the subconscious mind; absolutely amazing!

Whatever Play You Are In Depends On Your Karma

Broken Oath Book Review
Chapter Seven -
Karob Returns To Earth

This chapter is all about the heightening of intuitive senses and the invisible umbilical cord that pulls all the characters together to interact in a forthcoming scenario.

Have you ever had the feeling that you are in a scene; you are the key player and everyone else are the role players? Or have you had the feeling that you are being played? Maybe you've had a sense that you are in someones story, or thriller. I know I have. It is a most un-nerving experience. Maybe it's a feeling that only fiction authors and writers can understand.

I have had at least two experiences that I can remember. The circumstances defies my human logic; to think that a collection of random people could come together for my benefit for me to play out a scene and we all act or react accordingly to produce a result. Who's behind the conspiracy? Do they know me? What do they want from me? Why me? And you know what is scary? I am aware that we are all 'Acting.' Yet we all purposely still follow through the role - ultimately, a conclusion has to come about whether it is a desired one or not. It's like a dream; I know what's going to happen yet I can't control it or the outcome.

I am told that forces in the Universe are always one step ahead of us and put things in place and in play, exactly where they are meant to be and that includes our being. We are not a law onto ourselves. We are all connected to each other; energies amalgamate when and where necessary - then a scene is set.

And so the scene is set for Karob; the High Queens Eteph El and Eschion connect with him as he falls through time and space. Together they secretly hope that the energy of their thoughts would be played out in a scene set for him as he pursues the Lady of Time who has reincarnated in the form of a humble village maiden named Melee.

Malachi; another key player and Melee also are becoming connected to the energy of Karob and his invisible manipulators. Together, they will all begin to encounter random senses, dreams and visions. They will soon be part of a plot, whether they like it or not. Malachi will know it while Melee tries to deny it. She feels that if she dismisses her intuition, then whatever is coming will go away - but it never does; once you have been selected to be part of a scene, the only way out is to play your role and hope you come out alive and well at the end.

Through Karma, Karob, Malachi and Melee will be joined, they are all where they were meant to be and until the role has been played out, the story will not end.

Those of you with a heightened sense of intuition will know what I mean, for right now here on Earth, we are all in a scene. Whatever play you are in depends on your Karma - there is no getting away from it.

And for those who refuse to believe such phenomenas - Good Luck!

What Else Inspires Me To Write ( blog 14th September 2013 re-edited)

Dear Friends and Avid Readers

As some of you may be aware, I am caught up in personal matters/issues at the present moment and so my creative mind has temporarily shut down - preventing me from producing new blogs. For the time being, I shall be regurgitating old articles to keep you amused. Also, if anyone missed any of my blogs the first time around, it gives everyone (and new readers) a chance to read it again:-

What Else Inspires Me To Write

Nature inspires me; I might see something that excites my spirit and I am compelled to write:-

I was walking through my local park one day and I noticed that throughout the gardens, there were patches where wild plants had grown.

If fact, they had sprouted so ferociously, that they towered above the flowers and shrubs already bedded there. I had to stop and admire their boldness, their determination, their tenacity and perseverance in finding a patch of soil in which to grow. They dared to flourish tall amongst the hierarchy of refined flowers and plants. I admired how they confidently displayed their beauty. And indeed, they flowed and danced so gracefully with the wind, you could not tell weeds from potted foliage. They were all equally beautiful. I admired how they took any opportunity to be seen and be noticed. Well, it worked; I was compelled to get out my mobile phone and take some pictures. And the more I took pictures, the more of these wild flowers I saw. I just carried on clicking. I saw beauty everywhere.

These wild plants had achieved their objectives. They seized the opportunity; they grew confidently tall and were noticed. They made it into my article and many people will be reading this story.

I aspire to take a lesson from them. We should all aspire to seize any opportunity to grow, to Be, to make a difference, and to achieve all our goals - because there is always a space out there for each and every one of us to make it happen.

And you know what, I bet if every time you wrote something down that moved you, by the end of the year, you would have written a beautiful book.

Did anything move you today?  Happy writing!

Failing Eyesight Is Not What It Seems

Power Of The Subconscious Mind

Some time ago, I began having problems with my vision, even when watching the television my eyes were a bit blurry. At the time, I did not need glasses but I felt my eyes were lacking in something; a nutrient.

I meditated on the matter and asked my subconscious mind to let me know what vitamin and/or mineral my body needed. I can’t recall how much time had elapsed but one morning just before I woke, I had a dream in which I saw the letters of the nutrient I was lacking.   Maybe I was not paying enough attention because by the time I woke fully, I only could only remember the end of the word “.….tein.” I said “That’s it. It’s Protein.”

The days that followed, I looked up all information on proteins and amino acids and which food would help my eyes. I could not find any connection between protein/amino acids and eyes. And at that time, I did not know of any other vitamin or mineral that ended in “…tein.” I searched and researched. I was determined to find this vitamin or mineral.

Then, one day I was wondering around my local drugstore and there right in front of me were bottles of multivitamins tablets with a label in large print; ‘an extra added ingredient …’Lutein.’ I couldn’t believe my eyes. I read the content “..Lutein, to help improve eyesight.”

I thanked my subconscious mind and bought a bottle.  Within days, my vision improved.

I had never heard of this 'Lutein' before so I looked it up. I read that Lutein is made naturally in the woman’s reproductive organs. And drastic reduction in body fat affects the surrounding fatty tissues  of the ovaries causing its inability to produce Lutein.

I was even more amazed to know that my reproductive organs were connected to my eyes. Isn’t nature wonderful. She’s so creative, she thinks of everything. It just so happened that at that time, I had started a ‘gluten free’ diet and I did indeed loose a drastic amount of body fat.  I admire and respect my subconscious mind, it knows the answer to everything.

I further read that there are fruits that contain this Lutein and so can help the eye function better; Bilbery, blueberry and blackberry and other berries. So, I began my campaign to restore the Lutein (and body fat) in my body; I ate the fruits and drank the juices.

Never underestimate the power of the subconscious mind.

Gaining Access To The Gateway Of Your Desires

Broken Oath Book Review

Chapter Six - Guardians of Order
and Time

When I first published my book, I was often asked whether there is any part of me in the book. Well yes, and I love adding bits of wisdom too.

For me, that's what make my book unique, every chapter can be taken and made into a discussion about any part of life.

Take for instance two characters in chapter six; Melet – the Doorkeeper and Telem – the keeper of Time. Their role is to grant or deny access to any soul who has a desire; they ascertain the true aspiration of the seeker and whether it benefits the whole rather than the one. Each of the Keeper is a doormaster and entry into their realm is only agreed upon once conditions are met. But what are the conditions?

We all assume that if we ask for anything; and it is usually by throwing our desires up in a prayer, it will be answered. Of course it will be…. as soon as conditions are met?

Let me give you my experience.  Some time ago, I prayed and prayed and asked God to give me understanding and compassion. In my mind, I thought I would be transformed into an exceptional human being, able to see and understand the mind of even the darkest soul. Instead, what did I get – for a ten year period I endured the neighbours from hell who made my life just that. As soon as I prayed for their removal from my life or justice for my emotional and psychological damage/pain, the toxic situation came at me with a vengeance. It took a long while for me to realise that I got what I asked for. How could I become and/or receive understand and compassion unless I went through this torment. This was the condition that I did not anticipate. I am very careful about what I pray or ask for now!

Likewise in Broken Oath, the Lord of Karma - Karob, assumes that if he gets past both Doorkeepers his desire to return to Earth (to pursue his lost love) will be met and problem solved but even he did not foresee that all was not as it seems. As I stated above, our thinking and that of the Universe are two different things.

Karob gets his wish to return to Earth, albeit to pursue Melee, but the conditions for him are not what he expected; if he delays his return to the fifth dimension he will become obsolete. b) If he chooses to stay on Earth he will lose his powers and become whatever is dominant in his nature - whether it be another form or a creature.

And as Melet the Doorkeeper tried to warn Karob; all is not as it seems for there is a third condition which is not revealed to the Karmic Lord until it is too late; c) the energy of the retrograde period on Earth means he will have less time than was originally allocated to him; time was revolving at an alarming speed.  For him every step he took towards his desire, there was an obstacle; just when he thought he was there, the plan or the theme changed. How frustrating it must been for him.

He was unable to comprehend the bigger picture; that he was not granted access for his own personal gain but so that his undertaking would benefit himself and the whole.  And that he would come to an understanding in keeping to his oath as the Karmic Lord.

But just as I had a lesson to learn; so did Karob, so do we all. We aspire, we pray, we put an energy out there, but we cannot fool the doorkeepers that hold the keys to granting our desire.

I have encountered many people who claim to pray for wealth so that they can help others. Unfortunately the wealth never comes to them in the way they anticipated.
Do you know why? Because they cannot deceive the doorkeepers who knows best.

Instead, they are given a job that helps the needy and/or vulnerable. Yes, they accumulate a wealth of knowledge and compassion, but their bank balance stays the same.

We may enter the gateway to our desires but we will receive a manifestation to match our energy, whether it brings us pleasure or pain - nothing more, nothing less.

Beware the Doorkeeper and the Time keeper; what you ask for and what the Universe grants you are two very different things.
